- Pinotage was created in 1925 by Professor Abraham Perold at Stellenbosch University by crossing Pinot Noir and Cinsault
- Climate: warm
- Styles: single–varietal or blended (Cape blend), oaked or unoaked
- Structure: dry, high acidity, moderate tannins, medium– to full–bodied
- Classic Aromas: strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, blackberry, plum, coffee, dark chocolate, smoke, roasted meat, earth
