- Gamay originated in Burgundy, but is most closely associated with Beaujolais, where it produces light– to medium–bodied wines, intended for early enjoyment

- Styles: primarily varietal; usually unoaked, though some cru Beaujolais may see oak maturation
- Structure: dry, high acidity, low–medium tannins, light–medium body
- Classic Aromas: raspberry, red cherry, red plum, rose, violet, peony
