Furmint | the golden grape of Tokaj
- Furmint is believed to be native to the Tokaj region in northeast Hungary and is first recorded in the 16th century. The grape name comes from ‘froment’ (wheat), referring to its golden color. Furmint is susceptible to Botrytis Cinerea (noble rot), making it ideal for producing Tokaji Aszú
- Climate: moderate continental
- Styles: dry and sweet white wines; oaked and unoaked; single–varietal or blended
- Structure: high acidity, light to full body, alcohol varies with ripeness
