dolcetto • the sweet little grape •
Dolcetto (the sweet little one) is a black grape variety, native to Piedmont and was the region’s most planted grape before the phylloxera outbreak. It’s been known since at least the 16th century and today it’s widely planted in the Langhe and Monferrato areas. The variety ripens earlier than both Nebbiolo and Barbera, on cooler sites, and traditionally produces light, easy-drinking wines with deep color and high tannins.
