barbera • the queen of Piedmont
Barbera is one of the most widely planted grape varieties in Piedmont and has traditionally been made into simple, fruity everyday wines. Since the 1980s, however, lower yields and maturation in oak have produced increasingly complex and age-worthy examples. Known since at least 18th century and widely considered to have originated in the Monferrato area, the grape variety is known for its vibrant acidity, deep ruby-purple color, and low tannins.
